EDF Renewables, Enbridge subsidiary EIH and CPP Investments have achieved full operational capability at the 480-MW Saint-Nazaire wind farm 12 km to 20 km offshore western France.
The development should supply about 20% of the Loire-Atlantique region’s annual electricity needs.
All 80 nacelles for the wind turbines and the electrical substation were manufactured at the Saint-Nazaire factories of General Electric Renewable Energy and Chantiers de l'Atlantique.
Following almost three years of construction, the wind farm began producing electricity at the beginning of June, with the 80 wind turbines subsequently connected incrementally to France’s national electricity transmission network.
