SINGAPORE Ørsted has awarded Sembmarine SLP a planned preventative maintenance contract for the Hornsea 2 wind farm, 89 km from the Yorkshire coast in the UK North Sea.

The scope covers maintenance and servicing of the low-voltage and ancillary systems on the offshore substation and reactive compensation station, with provisions for a further service extension.

It is Sembmarine SLP’s first sole supplier maintenance award. The company is transitioning from an offshore fabricator to a service provider for the offshore renewable energies sector, and it is accordingly redeveloping its facilities in Lowestoft.

The award follows the fabrication of the offshore substation and reactive compensation station in Singapore by Sembcorp Marine Offshore Platforms and Sembmarine SLP’s subsequent completion of the offshore installation, hookup and commissioning of these facilities at the Hornsea 2 site this March.

Hornsea 2, which became fully operational at the end of August, comprises 165 Siemens Gamesa wind turbines over an area of 462 sq m, with a total capacity of 1.32 GW.

DNV has completed Lenders’ Technical Due Diligence on the project Ørsted’s Hornsea 2 project, the world’s largest offshore wind farm.

Under a collaboration with Ørsted and the lenders, legal, financial and insurance advisers, DNV performed an independent energy yield assessment and a technical due diligence study on all aspects of the offshore wind farm and the associated offshore transmission facilities, which include what is said to be the world’s largest-capacity offshore AC substation.
