ROTTERDAM, the Netherlands – Van Oord has been named preferred contractor for construction of the Baltic Power offshore wind farm, 23 km north of the Polish coastline in the Baltic Sea.
The company will transport and install over 70 foundations, each comprising a monopile fitted with a transition piece.
Baltic Power is a joint venture between PKN ORLEN (Poland) and Northland Power (Canada) – Van Oord has worked previously with Northland on the Gemini and Deutsche Bucht offshore wind projects.
The new development will have a production capacity of up to 1.2 GW, with construction due to start in 2024 followed by commissioning in 2026.
Van Oord will deploy its heavy lift installation vessel Svanen, which it claims has installed the majority of all monopiles in the Baltic Sea to date, including for Baltic 2, Arkona and Kriegers Flak.
