STAVANGER, Norway  A bird radar is monitoring bird behavior in the area around what will be the world's largest floating offshore wind farm, Hywind Tampen, Equinor announced.

The first turbine was installed offshore in May, and the radar from Robin Radar Systems has been set up on one of the 11 turbines.

The bird radar is part of a larger study to investigate how bird life is affected by offshore wind. This work is supported by the Norwegian Research Council (Norges forskningsråd) and the project manager from The NINA - Norsk institutt for naturforskning through the MARCIS project, which aims to develop a decision-making tool to assess the overall effects of human activities in the marine environment on seabirds and other birds that migrate across the sea.

Equinor is conducting a number of studies on offshore wind coexistence and environmental impact.
