LYSAKER, Norway – Aker Clean Hydrogen and CapeOmega have signed a memorandum of understanding with AS Norske Shell concerning the Aukra Hydrogen Hub in mid-Norway.
This is a proposed large-scale production facility for clean hydrogen using gas from the local processing plant at Nyhamna.
Shell operates the deepwater Ormen Lange gas-condensate field in the Norwegian Sea and is also technical service provider at the Nyhamna plant in Aukra that receives the field’s gas, and a member of the Northern Lights CO2 transportation and storage partnership.
According to Aker, the clean hydrogen produced in Aukra could be used to decarbonize local industrial processes, provide emission-free fuel for sea and road transport, or be exported to European hydrogen consumers.
Earlier this year Aker and Aukra municipality entered an agreement that grants Aker Clean Hydrogen exclusive rights to explore and develop a project for production of hydrogen, ammonia, and associated products in Aukra.
