HOUSTON — Murphy Oil Corp. said it failed to encounter commercial hydrocarbons after concluding drilling at a well in Block 5 of the Salina Basin in offshore Mexico, according to a Reuters report.
The company is the operator and holds a 40% working interest in Block 5, with partners Petronas (30%) and Wintershall Dea (30%).
Murphy Oil started drilling in the Block 5 exploration well last year.
In November, Anadarko US Offshore LLC (Oxy) and Ridgewood Energy agreed to participate in the Oso-1EXP (Atwater Valley 138) exploration well in the US Gulf of Mexico. Murphy Oil remains the operator with 33.34%, the company said in its latest results statement, and expected drilling to start in fourth quarter of last year.
