HOUSTON – Heerema’s deepwater construction vessel Balder has removed Eni US Operating Co.’s Morpeth TLP in the Gulf of Mexico.

In mid-April, the Balder mobilized to the Morpeth field in Ewing Bank block 921. The campaign involved the engineering, preparation, removal, and disposal of the offshore infrastructure. The removal consisted of the 2,650-ton (2,404-metric ton) topsides, 2,500-ton (2,268-metric ton) hull, and 1,300 tons (1,179 metric tons) of tendons and piles.

The topsides was transported by barge, the tendons and piles on supply vessels, and the hull wet towed for recycling at MARS (Modern American Recycling Services) facilities in various US locations.

This project was Heerema’s first TLP removal campaign.

In 2020, the company removed 94,002 tons (85,277 metric tons) of decommissioned structures.
