NEW ORLEANS – Offshore operators are evacuating platforms and rigs in the Gulf of Mexico in preparation for tropical storms Marco and Laura, according to the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE).

Based on data from offshore operator reports submitted as of 11:30 CDT today, personnel have been evacuated from 281 production platforms, 43.7% of the 643 manned platforms in the Gulf of Mexico.

Personnel have been evacuated from six of the 10 (non-dynamically positioned) rigs.

Eleven of the 16 DP rigs have moved off location out of the storms’ projected paths as a precaution.

From operator reports, BSEE estimates that about 82.4% of the current oil production and 56.92% of the natural gas production have been shut-in.
