North Sea Tyra generators powered up, pipeline connected

ESBJEG, Denmark — TotalEnergies has completed power up of two gas turbines at the Tyra Field complex in the Danish North Sea ahead of schedule.
This is one of the main steps in the final stages of the Tyra redevelopment project, as the two turbines serve as the main means of power supply for the entire Tyra II hub and surrounding fields.
Both are located at the new processing module. The platform has three 35-MW turbines, with two due to operate at all times in the future and the third on standby.
They will convert natural gas to mechanical energy to enable production from the field. All three are configured to generate mechanical energy with high energy efficiency and at the highest environmental standards, TotalEnergies said.
Last week the company reestablished the 30-inch pipeline connection between Tyra and the Danish grid, allowing gas exports to resume following startup.
Dedicated teams are working around the clock to ensure that Tyra is restored to production this coming winter. Once fully operational, Tyra will deliver 2.8 Bcm per year to Denmark and other markets in Europe via the export pipelines to Nybro and Den Helder, the Netherlands.
Tyra is Denmark’s largest natural gas field and was processing and exporting more than 90% of the natural gas produced in the Danish North Sea before being shut down for redevelopment, due to natural subsidence of the chalk reservoir after many years of production.
Redevelopment involved decommissioning and recycling of the old Tyra platforms; recycling and extending the current legs on six of the platforms by 13 m to support their new topsides; a new process module; and a new accommodation platform.
