OSLO, Norway – Aker BP has approval from the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) to start up the new Hod B platform in the southern Norwegian North Sea.
The start-up process is under way.
According to the NPD, Aker BP and its partners have invested close to NOK6.2 billion in the Hod B development, which will tap 40MMboe, extending production from Hod through 2049.
Thomas Mørch, head of license management at the NPD, said: “There are major remaining recoverable volumes in several fields on the Norwegian Continental Shelf that have already been shut down.
“The experience gained and lessons learned from the redevelopment of Hod can blaze a trail for the development of additional shut down fields, in part through coordinated development with other fields in the area.”
Hod, discovered in 1974, is 13 km (8.1 mi) south of the Valhall field complex. Production started in 1990.
The original unmanned wellhead platform, remotely controlled from Valhall, is due to be removed in 2025.
