BAKU, Azerbaijan – BP reports that gas production from the Shah Deniz field in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea recently passed the 200 billion cubic meter mark, after first starting operations in December 2006.

The gas was initially exported through the South Caucasus Pipeline to Azerbaijan, Georgia and Türkiye, then to Europe following start-up of Shah Deniz 2 in 2018. Stage 2 supplies 16 bcm annually to markets in Türkiye and Europe via the Southern Gas Corridor pipeline system.

This year operator bp Azerbaijan expects to bring additional Shah Deniz 2 wells online as the East North flank starts up in Q4.

Currently, average daily production from the Shah Deniz Alfa and Shah Deniz Bravo platforms is 72.6 MMcm, received from 11 Alfa and 14 Bravo wells.

When the field was discovered in 1999, the initial estimate of in-place gas was over 1 tcm, with 2 Bbl of condensate. Since start-up, Shah Deniz has delivered 342 MMbbl of condensate.
