CAIRO, Egypt — Cheiron and partner Kufpec have discovered oil in the Geisum and Tawila West concession in the Gulf of Suez offshore Egypt.
The PetroGulf Misr Joint Operating Co. manages operations on behalf of EGPC (50%) and the partners (50%).
The GNN-11 discovery well, drilled into a fault block east of the GNN oilfield development, delivered 165 ft of vertical net pay in the Pre-Miocene Nubia Formation.
According to Cheiron, it represents the first confirmation that this formation is oil bearing in the area; the producing reservoir in the main GNN Field is in the Nukhul Formation.
The well, the fourth to be drilled and completed from the recently installed GNN Early Production Facility (EPF), has since come onstream at more than 2,500 bbl/d, lifting overall oil production from the concession to 23,000 bbl/d.
The EPF, located in the central area of the field, includes a conductor support platform, a mobile offshore production unit and a 10-in. oil export pipeline tied back to the Geisum Star production complex. The partners plan to drill a further three wells from the EPF to complete the current phase of the GNN drilling program.
Now that they have proven the exploration potential in the northern area of the concession Cheiron and Kufpec are considering at least three more exploration wells in the area.
