SAN DONATO MILANESE, Italy – Eni has discovered a potentially large oilfield in Block 7 offshore Mexico.
The semisubmersible Valaris DPS-5 drilled Yatzil-1 EXP, the second commitment well on the block, in 284 m of water, 65 km offshore in the Sureste basin.
The well encountered over 40 m of net pay sands with good quality oil in Upper Miocene sequences. Analysis of subsurface samples confirmed sound petrophysical properties.
Early estimates suggest potentially around 200 MMboe in place.
It follows Eni’s Saasken and Sayulita discoveries in offshore Block 10.
Other partners in Block 7 are Capricorn and Citla Energy.
