RIO DE JANEIRO – Equinor has paid Petrobras $475 million, the latest installment of its $2.5-billion purchase of block BM-S-8 in the presalt Santos basin offshore Brazil, containing the Bacalhau field (formerly the Carcará area).

The remaining $ 475 million will be paid in October.

Petrobras sold its full 66% operated stake in the block to Equinor in 2016 for $2.5 billion.

Brazil’s regulator approved Equinor’s plan for the Bacalhau Phase 1 development last June.
