ABERDEEN, UK – Wood has secured financial support via the Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Oil and Gas Industry Recovery Assistance Fund which it aims to channel to develop an autonomous robotic inspection and maintenance service in the region.
The company plans to support offshore and onshore oil and gas facilities. Completion of the project could lead to multiple robot deployments.
Wood’s expects to customize the robots and develop inspection software to analyze the visual, thermal, methane, and acoustic data they compile.
This data should allow specialists to monitor the integrity of facilities, allowing for earlier detection of leaks, corrosion, and anomalous vibrations and temperatures, supporting decisions on maintenance and repairs, improving the safety of personnel offshore, cutting carbon emissions, and driving ‘low-cost sustainable operations’, Wood claimed.
