MEISE, Belgium  Sarens has issued an update on construction progress for the latest development phase of the Al Shaheen oil field offshore Qatar.

This will lift production from the current 300,000 bbl/d.

The Gallaf Batch 3 Projects, operated by North Oil Co. (a consortium between Qatar Petroleum and Total Energies), will comprise two new wellhead platforms with a total weight of 19,000 t.

Fabrication of the jackets, each weighing about 2,800 metric tons, is progressing at the PTSC M&C and PVC MS yards in the port of Vung Tau, Vietnam, from where they will be shipped to Al Shaheen Field in Qatar.

Heavy-lift specialist Sarens has sent two twin LR1750s cranes to perform up to 20 lifting maneuvers for loads of more than 600 t.

Once each structure has been assembled, the cranes will place the jackets on a SPTM (self-propelled transport module) prepared for this operation, with more than 200 axle lines. The structures will then be transported to the loading area, then moved to the area where the new Al Shaheen wind farm will be installed.

Al Shaheen Field, located 80 km north of Ras Laffan coast in Qatar, currently produces via 300 wells on 33 platforms and accounts for about 45% of Qatar’s oil production.
