PARIS – Total has approval from the South African authorities to take a 50% operated interest in an offshore block from Canadian Natural Resources.
Block 11B/12B is in the Outeniqua basin, 175 km (109 mi) offSouth Africa’s southern coast. It covers 19,000 sq km (7,336 sq mi) in water depths from 200-1,800 m (656-5,905 ft).
Total plans to drill an exploration well in 2014, and agrees to carry Canadian Natural’s share of the costs up to a threshold of $150 million. The location of the well is to be agreed.
