TotalEnergies takes helm at second exploration block offshore Sao Tome and Principe

TotalEnergies has agreed to acquire a 60% operated interest in Block STP02 offshore Sao Tome and Principe.

PARIS, FranceTotalEnergies has agreed to acquire a 60% operated interest in Block STP02 offshore Sao Tome and Principe, following approval from the Agência Nacional do Petroléo de S. Tomé e Principé (ANP-STP).

The remaining interest will be held by existing license holders Sonangol (30%) and ANP-STP (10%). The transaction remains conditional on final approvals from relevant authorities.

STPO2 covers 4,969 sq km, 60 km from the coast of Principe. It is adjacent to the Block STP01 license, which TotalEnergies operates with a 55% stake, also in partnership with Sonangol and ANP-STP.

Interpretation of 3D seismic data over STP01 has revealed prospectivity, according to Kevin McLachlan, TotalEnergies senior vice president of exploration.
