SAN DONATO MILANESE, Italy – Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum has awarded Eni five new exploration licenses, four as operator, following the 2021 Egypt International Bid Round for Petroleum Exploration and Exploitation.

Three of the licenses are offshore. In the Eastern Mediterranean Sea, Eni and bp will each hold 50% of block EGY-MED-E5, while Eni has a 100% controlling interest in block EGY-MED-E6.

In the Gulf of Suez block EGY-GOS-13, the company is represented by the IEOC joint venture (100%).

According to the company, all the concessions are in prolific basins with proven petroleum systems that generate liquid and gaseous hydrocarbons, with access to nearby producing and processing facilities.

Eni said the awards will sustain its strategy of exploring and producing gas to sustain the Egyptian domestic market and LNG exports, following the recent re-start of the Damietta LNG plant.
