KUALA LUMPUR, MalaysiaHibiscus Oil & Gas Malaysia has discovered oil with the Bunga Aster-1 well on the PM3 commercial arrangement area (CAA) production sharing contract (PSC) offshore Peninsular Malaysia.

The well encountered about 17.5 m of oil-bearing sandstone with an oil column of potentially up to 46 m. Initial assessment of oil samples collected during logging indicate good reservoir characteristics.

Last year the company discovered Bunga Lavatera in the same concession via a well from the Bunga Orkid-D platform.

The company plans to evaluate and appraise Bunga Aster-1 to help delineate the size of the discovery.

It also plans to continue exploring other near-field prospects in the PM3 CAA PSC over the next three years, under the stewardship of Malaysia Petroleum Management.
