VANCOUVER, Canada  TotalEnergies and its partners in Block 11B/12B offshore South Africa have submitted an application for a Production Right.

According to Africa Energy, which owns 49% of one of the co-venturers, Main Street 1549, the joint venture is relinquishing the northern part of the block and aims to enter a gas market development period, with a view to installing an early production system on the deepwater Luiperd gas-condensate discovery.

Africa Energy President and CEO Garrett Soden said, “This is an important milestone…and we look forward to finalizing the gas offtake terms. The success at both the Luiperd-1X and Brulpadda-1AX wells significantly de-risks the remaining Paddavissie Fairway prospects for a potential larger development as the gas market expands in South Africa.”

Block 11B/12B is in the Outeniqua Basin, 175 km off the southern coast of South Africa. Following the proposed relinquishment, the block will likely cover about 12,000 sq km.

Qatar Petroleum International Upstream and CNR International (South Africa) are the other partners.
