RIO DE JANEIRO – Petrobras plans a 30-day stoppage from Aug. 15 on the Mexilhão platform and the Route 1 pipeline, which handles gas produced from Mexilhão and other presalt/ post-salt field facilities in the Santos basin offshore Brazil.

The company will use the suspension of production for a program of preventive maintenance and improvements at the facilities, including:

• Inspection of NR-13 equipment (Regulatory Standard on safety inspection and operation of pressure vessels, boilers and piping) and SPIE (In-house Equipment Inspection Service).

• Interventions in equipment necessary for gas production and delivery.

• To mitigate impact on gas supply during the stoppage, Petrobras will look to expand capacity of the Guanabara Bay regasification terminal from 20 MMcm/d to 30 MMcm/d.

• Reposition the regasification vessel from the Pecém LNG regasification terminal to the Bahia Terminal, with capacity to supply an additional 14 MMcm/d.

• Negotiation terms for a temporary increase in imports from Bolivia.

In addition, Petrobras will combine the maintenance with scheduled stoppages of its own and third-party thermoelectric plants in Brazil, reducing these’ plants demand for natural gas and increasing their generation availability in the remaining dry period.
