Offshore staff
SWINDON, UK – T.D. Williamson (TDW) has completed for Perenco UK an inline inspection (ILI) of a gas pipeline in the southern North Sea.
The operation was on the 24-in. line linking theTrent gas platform with the Bacton Terminal pipeline. Perenco commissioned the intelligent inspection and associated pipeline service operation as part of its strategic program to ensure integrity of its offshore pipelines and assets.
TDW provided full project management services, including planning, preparation, and risk assessment. Following site visits, an action plan was put together that included progressive pigging, KALIPER 360 geometry inspection, 24-in. gas magnetic flux leakage inspection, ILI reporting, fitness-for-purpose, run comparison, and corrosion growth analysis reports.
Despite a combination of high winds, driving rain, sleet, and snow, the offshore phase was completed in 23 days.
The ILI run from launch to trap was achieved in less than 21 hours. No metallic components were brought in, and only a small quantity of viscous black residue was produced. The gauge plate showed no signs of any deflection at any point around its circumference.
The tool displaced about 100 tons (91 metric tons) of liquid from the line. As benzene levels were high, the tool was left by the trap overnight to allow it to disperse. Following further inspection, the tool’s polyurethane components were found to be in a good condition with only a small amount of wear to the cups.
