OSLO, NorwayTGS will manage and license Tanzania’s offshore subsurface data under an agreement with the country’s Petroleum Upstream Regulatory Authority.

Previous exploration has proven various plays, TGS said, across much of the stratigraphy offshore, from early Cretaceous to Miocene reservoirs.

The dataset, which includes regional seismic and well data, should allow E&P companies to perform detailed interpretations of the basin's evolution and structural history; help identify further hydrocarbon plays; and allow for prospect-specific analysis and mapping of trapping configurations.

It will also provide insights into the maturity and distribution of source rocks to support understanding of the region's oil and gas potential.

TGS has exclusive rights to license all Tanzania’s offshore mainland data on behalf of the government, and in addition has the authority to acquire new seismic and reprocess existing data.

Additionally, it will be authorized to support future licensing rounds, which are set to take place from 2025 onward.
