    Fugro awarded seabed surveys for Abadi LNG project in Indonesia

    LEIDSCHENDAM, the Netherlands — INPEX Masela has contracted Fugro to perform a marine survey in the Arafura Sea offshore Indonesia for the Abadi LNG project.

    Fugro will acquire geophysical and geotechnical surveys to the FEED for the offshore production facilities, the subsea pipeline to the onshore LNG terminal and the CO2 injection infrastructure.

    The company will deploy its AUV Echo Surveyor VIII and a robotic seafloor drill, operated from Indonesian support vessels, with the program set to start during the second quarter.

    INPEX is developing the project with PT Pertamina Hulu Energi Masela and Petronas Masela in the Masela Block. They are targeting annual LNG production of 9.5 MMt, equivalent to more than 10% of Japan’s current annual LNG imports.

    INPEX and partner Shell will develop the giant Abadi field in the Arafura Sea via an offshore production facility and a 9.5 MM metric tons/yr (10.47 MM tons) onshore LNG plant, at a total estimated cost of $20 billion.
