TotalEnergies has awarded three of the main construction contracts for the GranMorgu field development, 150 km offshore Suriname in Block 58, to SBM Offshore, TechnipFMC and Saipem.

SBM Offshore, in partnership with Technip Energies, will build and install the FPSO, with SBM Offshore also set to operate the platform under an operations and maintenance agreement.

The FPSO will have an oil production capacity of up to 220,000 bbl/d, 2 MMbbl crude storage and associated gas treatment of up to 500 MMcf/d. It will be spread moored in a water depth of about 400 m, with first oil in 2028.

In a cooperation with Technip Energies, the all-electric drive platform will also be designed to minimize emissions, with zero routine flaring and full reinjection of associated gas into the reservoirs.

Waste heat recovery units will help reduce power consumption, and optimized water cooling should lead to further efficiency. A permanent methane detection and monitoring system will be installed onboard the vessel, relying on a network of sensors.

TechnipFMC has an integrated engineering, procurement, construction and installation (iEPCI) contract. This covers supply of the company’s Subsea 2.0 tree systems, manifolds, connectors, topside controls, umbilicals, flexible jumpers and flexible risers.

These will be engineered to suit the pipelay capabilities—notably J-Lay—of Saipem, the other main contract recipient.

Saipem’s EPCI scope for the subsea umbilicals, risers and flowlines (SURF) package includes about 100 km of 10- to 12-inch subsea production flowlines, 90 km of 8- to 12-inch water and gas injection lines, and transport and installation of flexible risers, umbilicals and associated structures in water depths ranging from 100 m to 1,100 m.

For the offshore campaign in 2027 and 2028, the company will deploy J-Lay and S-Lay vessels, executing the workscope in cooperation with TechnipFMC. The two companies formed an alliance in 2021 to pursue subsea projects including integrated SURF-SPS developments.

TotalEnergies announced FID for the GranMorgu development on Oct. 1.
