PARAMARIBO, Suriname — TotalEnergies expects to take FID on its first field development offshore Suriname later this year, the company revealed during the 2024 Suriname Energy Oil and Gas Summit.

First production from offshore Block 58 could follow in 2028. TotalEnergies operates the block in partnership with APA Corp. Suriname’s state-owned Staatsolie has the option to join the development by taking an interest of up to 20%.

FEED studies continue for the Sapakara and Krabdagu fields, estimated to hold recoverable resources of above 700 MMbbl.

The partners plan to implement water alternating gas injection and ocean-bottom node seismic technology to help maximize recovery of the placement of the development wells, and also to identify potential upside.

A first OBN campaign, more than a 900-sq-km area, is due to start in the second half of the year.

Recently, Staatsolie and TotalEnergies signed off an agreement on the field development area for Block 58’s 25-year production period. In addition, the partners have secured a hull for the 200,000-bbl/d FPSO.

To minimize emissions, the facilities will be designed for zero routine flaring, with all associated gas reinjected into the reservoirs. TotalEnergies will work with Staatsolie to promote local content in the project.
