BP operates in partnership with Chevron, ConocoPhillips, and Shell.

The consignment comprised the quarters and utilities integrated deck (QUID), with a lift weight of 9,400 metric tons (10,362 tons); the power generation (GM) module, at 4,550 metric tons (5,015 tons); and the 2,210-metric ton (2,436-ton) living quarters (LQ) module. All were lifted onto the pre-installed jacket.

Clair Ridge represents the second-phase of development of the Clair field, 75 km (47 mi) west of Shetland, designed to produce 640 MMbbl of oil over a 40-year period, with peak production of up to 120,000 b/d. The project calls for two new bridge-linked platforms and pipeline infrastructure to connect storage and redelivery facilities on the main Shetland Island.

The next major milestone, scheduled for summer 2016, will be the installation of the production and drilling (DP) platform topsides modules. Clair Ridge is expected to start up late the following year.

Clair Ridge is also the first sanctioned large-scale offshore enhanced oil recovery (EOR) scheme using reduced salinity water injection (LoSa EOR) to extract a higher proportion of oil over the field’s life.

To limit the project’s environmental impact, the platforms will be powered using dual-fuel power generators, incorporating waste heat recovery technology. Additionally, vapor recovery will be deployed to capture and recycle low pressure gas for use as fuel or for export to the shore.
