DUBLIN, Ireland i3 Energy’s Serenity oil discovery in the UK central North Sea could be developed via a subsea connection to the Tain field, Serenity partner Europa Oil & Gas said in its latest update.

Tain, discovered in 2005, is in block 13/23b in the Outer Moray Firth. Last March, operator Repsol Sinopec Resources issued proposals for a tieback to the FPSO Bleo Holm, which serves the Blake and Ross fields, via a new 19-km pipeline with an associated gas-lift line and control/chemical injection umbilical.

Discussions are under way between both sets of partners, Europa added.

Europa also revealed it had commissioned Llamas and Bannister Energy Advisors to support a farm-out process for license FEL 4-19 off northwest Ireland (Europa 100%), containing the Inishkea gas prospect.

If there is a commercial discovery at Inishkea, Europa believes the field could supply at least two thirds of the gas needed for the 2 GW of new gas-fired power generation required in the Irish Government’s latest Climate Action Plan.

The nearby producing Corrib gas field is said to have a lower carbon intensity than much of the gas that Ireland imports via the UK, and Inishkea’s composition could be similar.
