SOUTHAMPTON, UK – Buoyant Production Technologies (BPT) has entered a collaboration agreement with Subsea 7 concerning BPT’s floating normally unattended installation (NUI) concept, targeted at stranded smaller and deepwater oil and gas reservoirs.
BPT, a subsidiary of Crondall Energy, developed and tested the concept with the Oil and Gas Technology Centre in Aberdeen, Premier Oil, Total E&P UK, Lloyd’s Register, Siemens, Wärtsilä, Ampelmann, and BW Offshore.
The Floating NUI designs are configured for a range of offshore developments. Subsea 7 will add field development and delivery experience, supporting the integration of Floating NUIs into offshore energy projects through the engineering, construction, procurement, and installation phases.
The compact single column facilities are designed and equipped specifically for unmanned operations, with low capex and opex requirements, according to BPT.
Configurations include:
- Utility buoys powered using renewable sources, potentially replacing subsea umbilicals for well control and management.
- Normally unattended production units.
- Offshore substation units for use in offshore wind farms and for power import/export to oil and gas infrastructure.
- Standalone production buoy for smaller deepwater developments.
- Power and control buoy providing well site services for long-range /complex gas and oil tiebacks.
- Floating substation for use on offshore wind developments and power import/export applications.
