ABERDEEN, UK – Sparrows Group will supply three cranes for Qatargas’ offshore North Field expansion project.
Under a sub-contract to McDermott International, the company will deliver two of its EC750 cranes for installation on wellhead platforms, and an EC1000 crane for a riser platform.
North Field, with recoverable reserves of more than 900 tcf of gas, is undergoing further development with four new LNG trains, eight wellhead platforms and 80 new wells.
Sparrows will construct the cranes to API specification 2C 7th edition, and expects to complete delivery late this year to the Batam yard in Indonesia, where the platform topsides are currently being assembled. The company will then oversee installation and commissioning of the cranes.
Once on-location at the North Field, Sparrows’ local team in Qatar will support their continued operation, storing spare parts locally for future maintenance campaigns.
