Hafslund Celsio has awarded SLB Capturi and Aker Solutions an EPCIC contract to provide a carbon capture installation at the district heating supplier’s waste-to-energy complex in Klemetsrud, Oslo.
The development will be linked to the Norwegian government’s Longship onshore/offshore carbon capture and storage (CCS) project.
The contract scope covers delivery of a carbon capture plant, liquefaction system, temporary storage and a loading facility at the waste incineration site.
It also includes provision of an intermediate CO2 storage and ship loading system at Oslo harbor. From there, the CO2 will be transported to the Northern Lights permanent subsurface storage site in the Norwegian North Sea.
Once in operation, the new installation should be capable of capturing 350,000 mt/year of CO2.
The award follows a cost reduction analysis, which identified potential efficiencies, including layout optimization measures.
The project will feature SLB Capturi’s modular Just Catch 400 system, which is designed to reduce the onsite footprint, installation and volume of outfitting work.
Hafslund Celsio’s carbon capture plant is the second in Longship; SLB Capturi is currently implementing the first carbon capture plant at Heidelberg Materials’ cement facility in Brevik, again in collaboration with Aker Solutions.
