More data available to UK wind, carbon storage planners

The NSTA’s National Data Repository has uploaded more than 4,000 files containing information on wellbores and seismic surveys to support carbon storage and wind farm sites.

The North Sea Transition Authority’s National Data Repository (NDR) has uploaded more than 4,000 files containing information on wellbores and seismic surveys to support carbon storage and wind farm sites.

These came from the National Hydrocarbons Data Archive that are managed by the British Geological Survey. Most are from the 1980s and 1990s, although some date back to 1978. All the information is now available to industry and academia.

NDR is a freely accessible archive that contains one petabyte of North Sea data, including seismic surveys and wellbore information, and it also includes data from offshore surveys.

Some of the seismic survey information is over areas in and around carbon storage license and wind farm developments in the East Irish Sea as well as carbon storage areas in the UK central North Sea.

Included are original "raw" data that can be reprocessed using modern techniques.
