bp plans a subsea tieback development of its El Fayoum gas discovery in Egypt’s North Alexandria offshore concession in the Mediterranean Sea.

The drillship Valaris DS-12 spudded the El Fayoum-5 exploration well in mid-February. The well penetrated four prospective Messinian gas reservoirs, with a total sand thickness of 50 m at a measured depth of 2,900 m.

It was bp’s second consecutive gas find in recent months, following the El King-2 well in the North King Mariut offshore concession.

The company is looking to connect El Fayoum to infrastructure serving its operated West Nile Delta gas-condensate fields in the North Alexandria and West Mediterranean Deepwater concessions.
