Odfjell Drilling announced earlier this year that it received a contract extension from Equinor for the use of Deepsea Atlantic rig, bringing the firm backlog on the rig up to late second-quarter 2027. It was also listed as the facility in use in November 2024 when the Norwegian Ocean Industry Authority (Havtil) gave Equinor consent for exploration drilling in Block 6406/6 in the Norwegian Sea.
Equinor has discovered gas-condensate in the PL1119 Mistral exploration well 6406/6-7S in the southern Norwegian sea.
Partner OKEA said early analysis indicates 19 MMboe to 44 MMboe recoverable.
The well, drilled to a vertical depth of 4,024 m, penetrated a 47-m thick gas/condensate column in a 99-m thick middle Jurassic sandstone. The partners will assess options for a development via existing infrastructure in the area.
