Equinor has proven more oil and gas close to the Fram area of the Norwegian North Sea.
The Deepsea Atlantic semisubmersible rig drilled an exploration well and sidetrack on the Rhombi prospect in 355 m of water in PL 090, 10 km north of the Troll field.
According to the Norwegian Offshore Directorate (NOD), the wells encountered hydrocarbons in the Sognefjord and Fensfjord formations, with good reservoir properties. Both have since been plugged and abandoned.
Equinor estimates reserves in the range 13 MMboe to 28 MMboe.
The company and its co-licensees Vår Energi and INPEX Idemitsu Norge will consider a tie-in to existing infrastructure and other prospects in the area.
This was the first discovery in the area this year, the NOD added, aside from an appraisal well in a previous find.
Other recent finds in the area, Echino South and Blasto, are being advanced as the Fram South development project, while Mulder and now Rhombi should provide future high-value production, said Vår Energi.
The company plans to participate in a further six exploration wells in the area over the next three years.
