Aker BP has proven gas with an appraisal well 12 km west of the Skarv field in the Norwegian Sea.

The semisub Deepsea Nordkapp drilled well 6507/2-7 S in 340 m of water, 230 km.

According to the Norwegian Offshore Directorate, the goal was to confirm the size of two previous discoveries made in 2022 by the 6507/2-6 well - Storjo East and Kaneljo, in Jurassic and Cretaceous reservoir rocks, respectively.

Early analysis of the latest results suggests a recoverable reserves range of 13 MMboe to 55 MMboe in the main Lower Jurassic Tilje formation target, and 8 MMboe to 12 MMboe in the secondary Mid-Jurassic Garn formation target.

Aker BP and its partner in production license 261, Harbour Energy, will consider tying the discoveries to infrastructure in the area.

Deep Sea Nordkapp now heads to production license 932 for another assignment for Aker BP.
