THE WOODLANDS, Texas – Anadarko has spudded the Phobos appraisal well, 12 mi (19 km) south of its Lucius spar platform in the Gulf of Mexico.

The well is testing the downdip extent of theWilcox-aged oil accumulation on the eastern side of the structure.

If successful, Phobos could be developed as a tieback toLucius.

In the Green Canyon 518/519/563 permit, Anadarko and its partners have drilled a second successful appraisal well with the Warrior discovery, 3 mi (4.8 km) from the company’s K2 field.

A tieback will likely follow to the Marco Polo production facilities.

The company reported less good news offshore Côte d’Ivoire, with it failing to prove commercial hydrocarbon volumes in either the Paon-6A or Colibri-1X wells.
