RIO DE JANEIRO – Petrobras has proven further oil with its seventh well on the pre-salt Tupi structure in the Santos basin.

Tupi Alto was drilled on block BM-S-11 in 2,111 m (6,926 ft) of water, around 275 km (171 mi) from Rio de Janeiro.

According to partner BG Group, wireline testing confirmed the presence of light oil (around 30º API) and high-quality properties across the key Sag reservoir. Data from this and previous wells on Tupi suggest potential for 5-8 Bboe recoverable of light oil and natural gas from the pre-salt reservoirs.

BG Group CEO Frank Chapman said: “Appraisal results continue to confirm the reservoir models in Tupi, Iracema, and Guara by giving better definition in crestal areas and on the flanks of the fields. The results continue to de-risk the production outlook for these assets and allow us to optimize field development planning and capital efficiency.”

Work on Tupi Alto is complete. Drillstem tests will start shortly to evaluate reservoir productivity.
