Seadrill and Sonangol affiliate Empresa de Serviços e Sondagens de Angola have formed a joint venture named Sonadrill.

HAMILTON, Bermuda – Seadrill and Sonangol affiliate Empresa de Serviços e Sondagens de Angola have formed a joint venture named Sonadrill.
It will operate four drillships (two provided by each party), focusing on opportunities offshore Angola.
Seadrill’s two vessels will be from the company’s existing owned or managed fleet.
Sonangol’s drillships, theLibongos and Quenguela, are 7th generation ultra-deepwater vessels currently under construction at the DSME shipyard in South Korea and are due to be delivered in the next few months.
Seadrill will manage delivery and mobilization to Angolan waters under a separate agreement with Sonangol and will then manage and operate all four drillships on Sonadrill’s behalf, initially for a five-year period.
