Statoil takes West Aquarius for Newfoundland wells

Statoil (OSE:STL;NYSE:STO) has contracted Seadrill’s deepwater drilling semisubmersible West Aquarius for exploration offshore Newfoundland.

STAVANGER, Norway – Statoil (OSE:STL;NYSE:STO) has contracted Seadrill’s deepwater drilling semisubmersible West Aquariusfor exploration offshore Newfoundland.
Starting late 2012, Statoil will start a program comprising two exploration wells in the Flemish Pass basin and one in the Jeanne d’Arc basin.
West Aquarius is a sixth generation DP-3 semisub built in South Korea in 2009. It can operate in harsh environments in up to 3,000 m (9,842 ft) water depth. Statoil has taken the rig on as an assignment from ExxonMobil Deepwater Rig.
