PORT STANLEY, Falkland Islands-- Rockhopper Exploration has resumed its exploration drilling campaign in the offshore North Falkland basin.

Last week, the semisub Ocean Guardian spudded the 14/10-3 exploration well, 8 km (4.9 mi) northwest of Rockhopper’s Sea Lion 14/10-2 discovery well on license PL032.

This latest well, located outside the Sea Lion discovery area, targets the undrilled northern lobe of the Sea Lion fan system. It also should penetrate the distal, downdip portion of the newly-identified and underlying S2 fan body which Rockhopper has mapped over an area of 42 sq km (16.2 sq mi).

Planned TD is around 3,000 m (9,842 ft). Drilling operations should last roughly 38 days. On completion, Rockhopper expects to drill appraisal well 14/10-4 on the southern lobe of the Sea Lion fan system, within the discovery area, before the rig is released.
