OSLO, Norway– Wintershall Norge has discovered a small oil accumulation in the Vega area of the North Sea, according to the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate.
The semisubmersibleBorgland Dolphin drilled two exploratory wells for the operator in 381 m (1,250 ft) of water in license PL 248, 5 km (3.1 mi) northwest of the producing Vega field, designed to prove hydrocarbons in late Jurassic reservoir rocks.
One well was dry, but well 35/8-6 A encountered a 3-m (9.8-ft) oil column in the Heather formation with poor reservoir quality.
Initial analysis suggests 0.2-1 MMboe recoverable.
Borgland Dolphinis now heading to PL 248 F in the North Sea to drill wildcat well 35/11-19 S for the same operator.
