STAVANGER, Norway – Statoil (U.K.) has contracted Asco UK to provide supply base and warehousing services for the Mariner field development in the East Shetland basin.

Asco will allocate its supply base and warehousing in Peterhead, north of Aberdeen. The scope includes provision of personnel, local transportation, marine gas oil, and quayside services.

The two five-year contracts, set to start in spring 2016, include two two-year extension options.

Statoil Production UK managing director Gunnar Breivik said: “Production on Mariner requires a high level of drilling activity and the field is reliant on a seamless and cost efficient logistics chain.

Mariner, 150 km (93 mi) east of the Shetland Isles, is due to enter production in 2017. The development concept includes a production, drilling and quarters (PDQ) platform based on a steel jacket and a floating storage unit (FSU).

Drilling will be performed from the PDQ drilling rig, with a jackup assisting during the initial years.

In the period when both rigs are drilling wells, at least five sailings a week will be required from the Peterhead supply base.
