STAVANGER, NorwayEquinor has taken up two options to extend drilling contracts for various platforms offshore Norway with Archer, KCA Deutag Drilling Norway and Odfjell Operations.

The extension, valid for four years, carries an overall estimated value of NOK18.4 billion ($20.06 billion). Equinor signed the original deals in 2018 and exercised the first of three two-year option periods in 2022.

The new four-year contract period takes effect from Oct. 1.

Prior to making its decision, the company staged a competition assessing drilling suppliers on certain fixed installations based on technical and commercial criteria.  It has led to a certain amount of redistribution between these suppliers on four of the offshore installations in the contract portfolios.

Services provided are drilling, completion, intervention, plugging, maintenance and modifications on 19 of Equinor’s fixed installations, with support from subcontractors for some of the services.

KCA Deutag valued its new award at more than $450 million from Equinor covering its existing support for five platforms on the Oseberg and Kvitebjørn fields in the North Sea. The company will also perform drilling, maintenance and engineering services on the Njord and Heidrun platforms in the Norwegian Sea.

It also has a separate agreement with Equinor for the management, operation and maintenance of the Askepott and Askeladden Cat J jackups in the North Sea.
