OSLO, Norway – Equinor will use the semisubmersible West Hercules for shallow gas investigations in the North Sea, following approval from Norway’s Petroleum Safety Authority.
The rig will drill wells 30/11-U-1 and 30/11-U-2 on licenses 035 and 272. The aim is to determine whether shallow gas is present in the area, as this would impact plans to install unmanned wellhead facilities for the development of the Krafla and Askja discoveries.
Water depths range from 105-107 m (344-351 ft). Both wells should take four days to drill.
