TORONTO – CGX Energy is preparing to drill two exploration wells offshore Guyana.
The Kawa-1 exploration well on the Corentyne block should spud during the second half of this year, in a water depth of around 370 m (1,214 ft).
The main target is a Santonian age, stratigraphic trap thought to be analogous to recent discoveries to the east in block 58 off Suriname.
Makarapan-1 on the Demerara block will likely be drilled to a TD of around 3,500 m (11,483 ft) and a water depth of close to 1,000 m (3,281 ft), targeting an Aptian age, sandstone reservoir.
Total cost of the Guyana exploration program in 2021 will be around $90 million, at current estimates.
