LYNGBY, Denmark – Total has contracted Maersk Drilling to provide two deepwater rigs for exploration and appraisal programs in block 58 offshore Suriname.

In total, the Mærsk Developer and Maersk Valiant should be employed for close to 500 days on the campaign.

The Mærsk Developer, a DSS-21 column-stabilized DP semisubmersible rig, should start operations this month, having recently completed another contract offshore Suriname.

The Maersk Valiant, a 7th generation drillship with integrated managed pressure drilling capability, should begin its program in March. The vessel had been warm-stacked in Aruba after completing an assignment last June offshore Mexico.

The total value of the contracts is around $100 million, including rig modifications, integrated services, and a mobilization fee for the Maersk Valiant. There are also extension options.
