NASSAU, the Bahamas – The drillship Stena IceMAX has spudded the Perseverance #1 exploration well south of the Bahamas.

Operator Bahamas Petroleum Co. (BPC) expects drilling to continue for up to 60 days. The well had originally been scheduled for this spring, but global events forced operations to be postponed to year-end, after the local hurricane season had passed.

BPC is targeting prospective oil resources of 770 MM-1.44 Bbbl.

CEO Simon Potter said: “More than a decade ago BPC secured several offshore hydrocarbon licenses in the far-southern waters of the Bahamas. Convinced of the compelling prospectivity of those licenses, the company has spent close to $120 million bettering our technical understanding, continuing to de-risk the play, and ultimately preparing meticulously for exploration drilling.”
