BP cleared to start drilling Ironbark offshore Australia

BP has received regulatory approvals for drilling of the Ironbark-1 exploration well in the WA359-P offshore northwest Australia, according to partner Cue Energy.
MELBOURNE, Australia – BP has received regulatory approvals for drilling of the Ironbark-1 exploration well in the WA359-P offshore northwest Australia, according to partner Cue Energy.
The Well Operations Management Plan and the Safety Case for the semisubmersible drilling rig Ocean Apex were the final regulatory documents to be approved by Australia’s National Offshore Petroleum Safety and Environmental Management Authority.
The rig now looks set to mobilize in mid-October, with drilling due to start later that month.
WA-359-P is in the Carnarvon basin, 50 km (31 mi) from existing North West Shelf LNG infrastructure. The well is due to be drilled to a depth of around 5,500 m (18,044 ft).
Other partners are Beach Energy and New Zealand Oil & Gas.
